Our floor height is 7/16″ (11mm) thick, made from 100% solid post-industrial waste recycled hardwood.
All the slats of hardwood are straight edge (no tongue and groove), which are held together with a transparent plastic tape (pressure sensitive adhesive coated) on the surface. After installation the tape is either manually removed or can be sanded off.
Sustainable Wood Floors are 7/16″ (11mm) thick weighs 1.7 lbs per sq ft or 8.3 kg per sq meter. This is the typical weight of our flooring when glued to concrete. The thickness of SWF tiles are 7/16″ thick, which is comparable with the thickness of stone (3/8″). This allows easy and inexpensive design of flooring mixed (wood/stone) materials.
Sustainable Wood Floors weigh 1.7 lbs per sq ft or 8.3 kg per sq meter. This is the typical weight of our flooring when glued to concrete.
Sustainable Wood Floor floors are installed by an easy glue down system and can be glued directly to most hard surfaces such as solid wood, plywood, cement, fiberglass, steel, etc. The floors can be finished within one week. That is about three times faster than traditional 3/4″ unfinished T&G floors.
The installed flooring is finished on the job site with a protective coating, which will provide high durability and protect the moisture content of the wood (concealing moisture). This is very important when temperature and air humidity are changing. The finished floor is more stable with minimal shrinkage or expansion.
There is no need to acclimate Sustainable Wood Floor tiles once it is delivered to the job site it can be installed.
We recommend only using high quality 100% urethane adhesives to install our products. These adhesives are developed to provide a waterproof membrane. Adhesives such as Stauf PUK 455 and DriTac 7900 are highly recommended. Please check with our technical team prior to installation if not sure if a particular adhesive should be used.
When Sustainable Wood Floor flooring is installed with a urethane adhesive, the slats of floor not only glue down to the subfloor, but they also glue to each other, preventing up and down movement of individual slats.
The flooring has to be glued down to a structurally sound foundation and the glue has to provide a waterproof membrane protecting the floor from the bottom and sides. After the installation, all the perimeters of the floor have to be filled with waterproof sealer, protecting the installed floor from water damage. This is the single biggest reason for damaged or completely destroyed wood floors.
Using the annual cost basis, Sustainable Wood Floor tiles are the least expensive wood flooring material. It is also less expensive than laminate floors and quality carpets as well.
Sustainable Wood Floor tiles designs are ideal solutions for current trends in interior floor plans with open space, so called “floating architecture.”
Our flooring system will last a minimum of a 100 years, in ideal situations it should last for centuries.
Advantages of SWF v T&G Hardwood Flooring
SWF are made from solid hardwood from Post Industrial waste. This helps reduce contribution to global climate change.
The highest quality sustainable hardwood lumber is used in the manufacturing of every product.
Life expectancy of our product is a minimum of 100 years.
State of the art, straight edge glued-down construction, not ancient tongue and groove construction is utilized.
There is no need for the wasteful use of a plywood subfloor, it can be glued directly to concrete, cork etc.
Preassembled tiles make for a quick, easy and precise installation. Installation time is over 3 times faster than unfinished plank flooring.
Comes with a transparent tape on the top of the tiles which protects the floor at construction sites.
Any drastic changes in the relative humidity will cause T&G flooring to change in its dimensional size that is why T&G floors constantly change during the seasons, cupping and warping is commonplace and if water gets on a T&G floor it will either be badly damaged or destroyed. SWF floors are designed to be installed in extreme conditions and can handle much more humidity than T&G hardwood floors.
